As 2021 comes to a close, we reflect back on yet another active and unprecedented year in the Ottawa real estate market, and we look forward to what the next 12 months have in store.
2021 brought back a more familiar real estate sales cycle to the Nation’s Capital, with a busy spring, slower summer, and another increase during the fall. The Ottawa market experienced rapid growth this spring, primarily driven by historically low interest rates, severe lack of inventory, and high average household incomes. Price growth has levelled off as we close out the year, a much needed break to surging month-over-month price increases.
Supply constraints are still expected to be a major factor on the real estate market next year, and along with outside investment and inter-provincial relocation, prices are expected to continue to increase throughout 2022.
